A Preserved Story | Bahraini Dowry Chest Documentary

The project focuses on the Sundooq Mubayat, a traditional Bahraini wooden chest that reflects the craftsmanship and cultural identity of the Gulf region. These chests were once an essential part of Bahraini homes, used to store clothes, jewelry, and family heirlooms. Each chest carried unique hand-carved patterns, brass decorations, and symbolic motifs that represented the maker’s skill and the owner’s status. However, with the rise of modern furniture and mass production, the Sundooq Mubayat is slowly disappearing from everyday life, becoming a cultural artifact rather than a living tradition.
